Aurora channel now available

As planned, Mozilla has successfully merged and created a new development branch named Aurora, as part of its plan to speed Firefox development cycles. Unlike the Minefield development branch, Aurora holds a subset of bug fixes and new features that will be the basis for the next Firefox release, most likely, Firefox 5.

As shown in the screenshot, it is very easy to switch channels from Aurora, to Beta, to final releases only, right from the About Nightly window.

Aurora is named after a web browsing concept developed by Adaptive Path for Mozilla Labs in 2008.

  1. I don’t see the channel switching dropdown on my nightly… i thought they only show that on the other 3 channels.

  2. For some reason I can’t get it to work. Using the latest nightly, same date as here. 2011-04-12. Have added the string. Restarted Firefox even, but I don’t get the drop down. Weird.

  3. @David Naylor – I’m with you there, don’t have that switch either (2011-04-12 nightly). Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I’m running the win64 Nightly? Are you as well?

  4. BTW it should be possible to change the channel in about:config changing the value of the “” key, possible values should be nightly, aurora, beta and stable (in order of stability). Hope this is useful 😉
