Great workaround, but for one thing: I am already running as an administrator in WinXP. Java 1.6 still crashes Firefox 18.104.22.168.
Also can’t get Java plug in to work with new release Firefox. I’m on Vista and the ‘Run as Administrator’ idea doesn’t work either. Hope this is fixed in 22.214.171.124 and hope it’s out soon. Having to go back to Internet Explorer. Oh no!! Sorry!
using the workaround, running as administrator, didnt do any change in the bug. Java still doesnt work for me… arrgh.
“Run as administrator” didn’t help for me either. I am already in the Administrator group on my WinXP installation.
I can duplicate the problem by visiting http://www.hotellaplaya.com/ and clicking on “What’s New” — is that the same bug discussed in this thread?
The fix suggested doesn’t appear to be working for me.
Vista Ultimate, Firefox 126.96.36.199
Everything is fine with the much hated IE7. Any other suggestions?
My problem got solved with the 188.8.131.52 update. Great, thanks!
[…] Mozilla has released Firefox 184.108.40.206, a quick update following Firefox 220.127.116.11 release which brought a number of regressions (things working incorrectly which weren’t before) including the Java plugin not working at all for Vista users. […]
Perhaps the problem I am seeing is not the same as the one being discussed here. WinXPPro, FF18.104.22.168, Java Plug-in 1.6.0_03.
I can duplicate the problem by visiting http://www.hotellaplaya.com/ and clicking on “What’s New.†FF reports (status bar) that it is loading data, but it is not, nor will it load any other site. It will appear to close, but leaves a >50MB process running. Is that the same bug discussed in this thread?
nope, not my bug… I am running Vista, and Java would just not open. And it was just the 22.214.171.124 version, the update set everything back to normal.

My problem with Firefox 126.96.36.199 Vista is every time I go to print I get the following message:
Firefox has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. I can print out of Internet Explorer but I prefer Firefox. I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it to no avail.
sweet it works…u need to update to 188.8.131.52 and run it as admin then it works…if u gete any issues email me for help… email@example.com
I have Firefox 184.108.40.206 and Vista, and I also had this problem (try to load a page with a Java applet, and Firefox freezes). This work-around seemed to fix things.
Finally solved my java/windows vista problem. Here’s the solution.
I need to run java applets on my machine running vista. I get the message “no plugins installed” “java runtime environement” “not available”. What’s the problem? Is there a fix?
I am running VHP and firefox 220.127.116.11 and still can’t get java to work. The fix posted by CJ on January 30 should be in no way nessesary. I wonder if it’s more a Mozilla or Microsoft problem.
I have V 3.0.4 and am having the same problems… The work-around didn’t work for me…
I have the same problem with v3.05..have not known how to solve it
A brute force method to fix is to manually copy all of the files from the Java install directory under bin to your Firefox plugins directory. It worked for me. I wish I knew exactly what files get installed when JRE runs but this is the only thing that fixed it. It’s a problem with the JRE not working properly (in my case). Works now though.
Thanks a lot! this last workaround worked fine for me. Vista ultimate and firefox 3.0.5 and latest java
Got problem on Vista 64 and java and firefox. Copied all files as you said and it worked! Thanks a LOT!
Thank you for the advice. By accident I found out that the only file that one needs to copy from the bin directory is:
I found it by trying to delete the files with firefox still running.
Tested it on a Vista pro SP1 + Firefox 3.0.7 + java 1.6.0-12.
I first copied all C:ProgrammesJavajre6bin* to C:ProgrammesMozilla Firefoxplugins -> OK
While firefox was launched with java enabled, I deleted all unused files of C:ProgrammesMozilla Firefoxplugins*
and tested again : OK
So I only need :
Thank’s a lot Steve !
Great job Denis, I tested and you are correct and only need the files you listed.
Okay, I am a administer, done everything and it still won’t work! T^T
